YHELD Consortium Advances Key Milestones

Plans for In-Person Training to Strengthen Internationalization in Yemeni Higher Education

The YHELD (Yemeni Higher Education Leadership for Development) consortium held its July coordination meeting on 17 July 2025, bringing together representatives from eight Yemeni universities and international partners, including UNIMED, SASS, LCU, MLU, and ACEEU. The meeting represented a key step toward strengthening international collaboration and advancing digital learning capacity across Yemeni higher education institutions.

Empowering Universities through Global Partnerships

The consortium discussed progress in assessing current internationalization practices and the use of digital education tools among Yemeni universities. Two surveys, led by Leeds Conservatoire University (LCU), aim to help identify institutional needs and guide future capacity-building activities. Yemeni partners shared valuable insights on faculty engagement and the growing importance of online learning tools.

Preparing for On-Site Capacity-Building Workshops

A key highlight of the meeting was planning for the project’s first in-person training workshop, a significant move after months of virtual collaboration. Organized by UNIMED, this five-day event — expected to take place in late 2025 in Jordan or Egypt — will focus on developing international strategies, improving communication, and building sustainable networks for Yemeni universities.

The training will be complemented by online follow-up sessions and will help each university design its own internationalization action plan to enhance visibility, attract partnerships, and align with global education standards.

Enhancing Communication and Visibility

SASS introduced new tools to strengthen the project’s outreach and impact measurement. These include an event reporting template, and an updated communication monitoring system designed to support transparent, consistent reporting across all partner institutions.

These initiatives reflect YHELD’s broader mission to foster collaboration between Yemeni and international universities, promote digital transformation, and empower academic leaders to contribute to Yemen’s higher education recovery and modernization.
