YHELD Consortium Sets the Stage for In-Person Training to Strengthen Internationalization in Yemeni Higher Education

The YHELD (Yemeni Higher Education Leadership for Development) consortium held its September coordination meeting on 18 September 2025, bringing together representatives from Yemeni universities and European partners, to discuss key strategic and operational steps for the months ahead.

Focusing on Capacity Building and Project Extension

A central theme of the meeting was the preparation of in-person training courses for academic and administrative leaders from Yemeni universities. The consortium confirmed that these courses are planned for later this year, most likely in Cairo or Amman—to provide hands-on learning experiences in areas such as internationalization, leadership, and digital transformation. Yemeni partners expressed a strong preference for Cairo and proposed November as the ideal timeframe.

The meeting also included a review of project progress and discussions on a potential extension of the YHELD project timeline to ensure full implementation of its capacity-building objectives. Partners exchanged ideas for strengthening collaboration and expanding the project’s impact beyond its initial scope.

Strengthening International Partnerships

Several institutions shared examples of how the project is already influencing their international engagement strategies. These include efforts to develop clearer institutional roadmaps for international cooperation, encourage English-language programs, and build stronger links with European universities.

By aligning these initiatives with YHELD’s mission, the consortium continues to support the modernization of Yemeni higher education and promote sustainable, long-term partnerships between Yemeni and European institutions.

Looking Ahead

Partners agreed to finalize the training dates and agenda in the coming weeks. The next coordination meeting will take place in October 2025.

Through its collaborative and inclusive approach, YHELD continues to play a key role in equipping Yemeni universities with the tools and knowledge they need to engage globally and lead effectively in a changing academic landscape.
